ARTWORK BY ANAÏS HERD-SMITH
Anaïs Herd-Smith is a specialist in crafting art through paper cuttings and stop-motion animation. Her muse is nature itself, drawing inspiration from both the mystical creatures of mythology and the wonders of the natural world.
Her imaginative artworks are characterised by bold, bright colours and characters radiating with joyful personalities.
Anaïs has collaborated with several big names, including MTV, Goyard and Roger Vivier. Her work has been shown all over the world.
This work delves into the contemporary, profound sense of rebirth, highlighting one of Xacus's most cherished values: sustainability.
Made with reclaimed material - offcuts of fabric and Fedrigoni paper created from cotton processing waste, Renaissance is an abstract expression of nature's beauty and power. It embodies the essence of an evolving creature, gradually emerging growing, transforming, taking shape, and multiplying, just like all living beings.
Through a continuing interplay of references and connections between artistic, sartorial and natural creations , Anaïs Herd-Smith’s work is a tribute to the charm of slow progress, stemming from dedication, respect, and patience.
Every rebirth is a beginning fed by an end. It is a fresh shoot nourishing itself from time-worn soil. It is a new life that springs forth from the transformation of matter.
It is a glimpse of the future, fuelled by the wisdom of the past.
With this message, rich in its celebration of beauty and optimism regarding the need to embrace a sustainable vision , Renaissance invites us to translate this symbolic rebirth into a cultural renaissance , placing nature at the heart of everything we do individually and collectively.
Renaissance marks the culmination of a very important partnership between Xacus and Fedrigoni, aimed at producing special paper crafted from scraps and small offcuts of premium cotton used to make shirts. The reclaimed fibres, expertly handled by Fedrigoni, will be reused to create paper with exceptional structural and aesthetic attributes, with 20% of it originating from scraps. This endeavour embodies an upcycling project wherein waste materials are transformed into fresh raw material for a premium product. Xacus will incorporate this paper into its packaging and coordinated image.
