Liberty of London

A tradition of printed fabrics born in London in 1875 thanks to the vision of Arthur Lasenby Liberty.

Named after the founder Arthur Lasenby Liberty,

a London shop assistant who decided to open a shop in 1875 in Regent Street, the heart of the English capital. It was one of the first department stores to sell fabrics, furnishing accessories and clothing. The genius visionary Arthur Lasenby Liberty invented a new type of printed fabric: its abstract floral patterns on the highest quality poplin fabrics came to represent the cutting edge in the use of shapes and colours.

A team of 20 designers are led by the Senior Bespoke Designer Adam Herbert, working with passion to research and create prints that always have great appeal and originality, following a tradition that has been handed down for over a century, sourced from the valuable archives. We caught up with him and asked him to tell us the secrets and the new developments in the Liberty world, from the creative department’s search for inspiration to the season’s latest products, with a few small hints about the direction of future collections and the new generations.
