Xacus goes to Norway, summer tour among the fjords
Let's put it this way. It is now known that August weather is not what it used to be, and for those who, like me, cannot stand the suffocating "Mediterranean heat" of recent summers, a cruise to Northern Europe, among the Norwegian fjords, seemed the most appropriate choice.
Along with me, Marianna, my lifelong friend, Casimiro and Francesco, a couple of friends who shared this experience with us. We land in Copenhagen, two people from the ship's staff greet us and take us to the port by private coach. Photo-op as we board the ship, then with our friends in tow, we make our way to our cabins. We change anxious to take a tour of the ship and discover its most beautiful corners, from which to watch the sea at sea, peek at the spa and the 7 restaurants - apparently there is even a Japanese one. First-day outfit: bon ton Italian style. Given the air conditioning on the ship I wear a nice cotton tick striped shirt and mix it with a silk longuette and sneakers.
After the first day of sailing, we arrive at the port of Hellesylt, just enough time to photograph the Hellesylt Waterfall and set off again for Hornindal where we manage to catch a glimpse of an ancient bridge built of dry stone some 200 years ago, which still resists snow, floods and the weight of tourists. Along the way we notice that the houses have their roofs covered with grass-an ancient tradition that has now been revived in bioarchitecture as a natural sound insulator and to keep temperatures constant.
Jostedal Nature Park is located in Europe's largest glacier, with an area of 487 square kilometers. Expecting cooler temperatures, we thought about equipping ourselves with appropriate outfits: insulated windbreaker and an Xacus check shirt because, as Casimiro said, "Style first! Especially at high latitudes!" We eat inside a hotel with a quaint wooden interior: mushroom and asparagus soup, and of course a slice of salmon with boiled potatoes.
Day 4 Bergen
Bergen is a bit of a must-see for those who want to visit the Norwegian fjords, it may be because of its picture-postcard landscape with its colorful wooden houses. We continue the tour to see the view from the Lindesnes lighthouse overlooking the North Sea, the oldest lighthouse in the country, dating from 1655, before returning to the ship and relaxing in the sauna before dinner with the captain, for which Casimiro and Francesco flaunted all their class and knowledge for fashion with their mariniere looks: a little bit Agnelli, a little bit Onassis in Capri.
Short excursion to Norway's capital city
We were advised to stop by the Viking Ship Museum, where three specimen ships and a number of tools found at the burial sites of Viking leaders are preserved in an area between the Oslo fjords. Finally, final touch and go at the Fram Museum, where the ship, built in 1892, that explored the North and South Poles is housed.
